M2M and Sochi Presented GLONASS-Based System
OREANDA-NEWS. February 4, 2009. Representatives of the International Olympics Committee inspected the progress of the Winter Olympics-2014 preparation on Jan. 31.
During the visit, the status of Sochi transport infrastructure was also demonstrated, including construction of the Dzhugba-Sochi modern autobahn around Sochi, development plan of the transport infrastructure, introduction of the automated monitoring and dispathcer system on the basis of the GLONASS newest technologies. Igor Levitin, Russian Minister of Transport, informed Vladimir Putin, Head of the Russian Government, and Jean-Claude Killy, Head of the Coordination Commission, International Olympics Committee, about the application of the new technologies in the pre-Olympics activities. He also stated that all the transport in Sochi will be equipped with GLONASS devices.
According to the Vesti program, "Sochi is a kind of post-card of the Russian economy. Joint project "Automated transport monitoring and dispatcher system in Sochi" (ATMD) of M2M Telematica and Sochi City Administration was presented at a press-conference in Sochi on Jan. 29, 2009. ATMD will provide central monitoring, tracking and dispatcher control of the Sochi`s transport; it will enhance security for passengers` and cargo transportation, increase economical effectiveness in transportation.
The first milestone of this project has been achieved already. Buses in Sochi and the region around Sochi were equipped with the M2M-Cyber GLX terminals, which acquire and process signals from the Russian GLONASS navigation system. Dispatcher`s control sites were arranged on the basis of the M2M-CityBus software.
ATMD helps monitoring fuel consumption, traffic rules, utilization of the city transport. Furthermore, with the new system, local Sochi transport companies have achieved 30% profit increase."
