EU Became Main Trade Partner of Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. On January 29, 2009 a meeting between Minister of Economics of Ukraine Bohdan Danylyshyn and Head of a European delegation Eva Sinovietz took place during the V round of negotiations concerning creating a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU.
At the beginning of the event Bohdan Danylyshyn underlined the significance for Ukraine of effective character of negotiations and the understandings achieved with an aim to improve trade-economics relations with the European Union which belongs to principal trade partners of Ukraine.
According to the Head of economic department the talks concerning free trade zone between the Parties in the frames of concluding Association Agreement are held within the scope of a deepened strategic partnership between Ukraine and the EU.
On the outcomes of an analysis of showings of foreign trade with goods and services of Ukraine for January-September of 2008 the European Union appears the biggest foreign trade partner of Ukraine, whose share amounts 31.5% in general trade turnover of Ukraine with the countries of the world. At this, the export share to the EU-27 of goods and services of Ukrainian production has totaled 27.5%, while import with the EU – 34.9% respectively.
Foreign trade turnover with goods and services with the countries of this region for January-September of 2008 has grown against January-September of 2007 by 44% and amounted USD 42 bn 62 mn.
Also, in the course of the constructive dialog Bohdan Danylyshyn briefed Eva Sinovietz on current tendencies of social and economic development of Ukraine.
Besides, the participants considered issues of holding the next round of talks concerning deepened free trade area between Ukraine and the EU.
In the end of the meeting Economics Minister of Ukraine wished a fruitful work during the fifth round of negotiations and expressed hopes on mutual understanding reached with the European side in the current situation.
