PAVA Summarizes Results of Collaboration with UN WFP in 2008
OREANDA-NEWS. On 30 January 2009 was announced, that in 2008, major Russian grain processor PAVA (www.apkhleb.ru) shipped over 10,000 tonnes of flour to developing countries, being a participant of the UN WFP.
World Food Programme – is the largest humanitarian organization in the world, founded in 1963 under the auspices of the UNO for providing food aid to developing countries. The main goal of this organization is facilitating economic and social development of these countries. In case of emergency situations, it grants urgent aid for supporting the victims of military hostilities, natural and technogenic catastrophes.
OJSC PAVA has been a partner of the UN for more than 3 years, annually shipping fortified flour to the poor. In 2008 such shipments were made to 7 countries which include Somalia, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Tajikistan and others. Flour for WFP shipments is produced in accordance with international quality parameters ISO and is additionally enriched with vitamin & mineral complex.
Working out solutions for the food security problem in developing countries is an important issue in PAVA’s activities. Apart from shipping fortified flour within UN World Food Programme, in 2008 the Altay grain processor launched a new protein-enriched flour Zhitnitsa. This is a unique product, which preserves all vitamins, macro- and microelements naturally stored in the grain kernel. In Zhitnitsa, all essential amino acids are balanced, which helps easy assimilation of the protein contained in the products of baking. Using soft grades of wheat in combination with modern milling technologies allows to lower the production cost while maintaining excellent quality and value for health. 100 grams of Zhitnitsa satisfy a 100% of daily nutrition requirement for vitamins B1 and B2, 31% for vitamin PP and 29% for tocopherol.
