In 2008, stevedoring company of the Freeport of Riga - Baltic Container Terminal (BCT, Latvia’s largest container terminal) handled 207,244 TEU (-2.1%, year-on-year), Aldis Zieds, BCT Board member siad. According to Latvia’s Ministry of Communications, the country’s ports handled 229,248 TEU including 210,953 TEU in the port of Riga. Thus BCT accounted for 90% of Latvia’s container throughput and 98% - of Riga container throughput.

Baltic Container Terminal is owned by Mariner S.p.A. (Italy).
