Throughput of Russian Seaports Up 1.1% to 454.6 mln t in 2008
OREANDA-NEWS. January 27, 2009. In 2008, Russian seaports handled 454.6 million tonnes of cargo (+1.1%, year-on-year) including 191.8 million tonnes of dry cargo (+3.6%) mainly due to a 5.2-pct growth of dry bulk (to 75.8 million tonnes) and 5.9-pct growth of cargo transported in large-capacity containers (to 32.1 million tonnes). in the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 0.6% to 262.8 million tonnes mainly due to a 1.9-pct decrease of crude shipment.
Export accounted for 75.6% of the total throughput, import – 9.3%, transit – 8.7%, coastal trade cargo – 6.4%, which makes 343.9 million tonnes, 42.1 million tonnes, 39.4 million tonnes and 29.3 million tonnes respectively.
In the sector of dry cargo export transshipment of timber fell by 37.5%, grain – by 8.2%, chemical mineral fertilizers – by 4.2%, cargo in large-capacity containers – by 4.7%.
Major dry cargo export still falls on coal – 53.0 million tonnes (+5.3%), metal – 24.1 mln t (+0.7%), mineral fertilizers – 11.7 million tonnes (-4.2%), timber – 8.9 million tonnes (-37.5%).
Transshipment of transit cargo increased by 0.6% (dry cargo up 1.5 times, liquid bulk cargo – down by 0.9%); coastal trade cargo – by 22.4% (dry cargo – by 27.0%, liquid bulk cargo – by 17.7%).
Sea terminal of the North-West Basin increased their throughput by 2.6% to 215.0 million tonnes while the result demonstrated by the ports of the South and the Far East Basins almost stayed at the level of the previous year with a slight fall in the South Basin (-0.5%) and a slight growth in the Far East Basin (+0.5%) amounting to 159.2 million tonnes and 80.4 million tonnes respectively.
In 2008, ASOP members handled 221.3 million tonnes which makes 48.7% of the total throughput. ASOP members of the North-West Basin handled 72.9 million tonnes (at the level of 2007). The growth was demonstrated by the following companies: Archangelsk Sea Commercial Port OJSC – 1.7 million tonnes (+19.8%), Port Vyborg LLC – 1.3 million tonnes (+17%), Petersburg Container Terminal CJSC – 11.4 million tonnes (+8.8%), BBT OJSC – 5.3 million tonnes (+4.5%), Petersburg Oil Terminal CJSC – 11.8 million tonnes (+2.8%), Petrolesport CJSC – 7.5 million tonnes (+8.1%). The following companies decreased their throughput: Port Vysotsk LLC – 2.96 million tonnes (-31.4%), Sea Port St. Petersburg OJSC – 10.9 million tonnes (-8.6%); Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC – 14.3 million tonnes (-0.8%).
ASOP members of the South Basin handled 103.9 million tonnes (at the level of 2007). The growth was demonstrated by the following companies: Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port OJSC – 72.8 million tonnes (+1.5%); Novolesexport OJSC – 2.7 million tonnes (+5.3%), Commercial Seaport of Makhachkala FSUE – 6.4 million tonnes (+2.1%). The following companies decreased their throughput: Commercial Seaport of Yeisk OJSC – 1.1 million tonnes (-23%), Commercial Seaport of Tuapse OJSC – 19.4 million tonnes (-0.9%), Commercial Seaport of Taganrog OJSC – 1.4 million tonnes (-31.1%).
ASOP members of the Far East Basin handled 44.5 million tonnes. A 6.6-pct growth was reched due to Commercial Seaport of Nakhodka OJSC – 7.4 million tonnes (+34.7%), Commercial Port of Vladivostok OJSC – 5.9 million tonnes (+ 21.3%), Posjet Commercial Port OJSC –2.8 million tonnes (1.6-fold). The following companies decreased their throughput: Chukotka ports – 0.6 million tonnes (-28%), Commercial Seaport of Magadan OJSC – 0.8 million tonnes (-1.8%) and Vostochny Port OJSC - 15 million tonnes (-8.2%).
