OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 January 2009 was announced, that on January 23, Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov held a working meeting with Director General of Piter-Star Joint-Stock Company Evgeny Vasiliev. This company is engaged in the field of telecommunication technologies; in the Northwest of Russia it is one of the branch leaders and intends to target Karelian market with projects on development of fibre-optical and wireless networks. In particular, one of the projects means maintenance of telecommunication and access to Internet for small settlements.

Head of Karelia supports coming of new investors to the republic. In his opinion, successful implementation of their plans will promote occurrence of new small enterprises and workplaces in hi-tech branches, as well as expansion of the e-government, telemedicine and distance education opportunities, and digital TV development.
