Government of Ukraine Won’t Allow Revising Reached Gas Agreements
OREANDA-NEWS. January 23, 2009. The Government won’t allow revising the reached gas agreements between the Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Russia. First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov told briefing.
“The Government won’t allow revising the reached gas agreements because they reflect the interests of our state, these agreements of the Contract have been clearly formed within the framework of strategic, economic interests of Ukraine,” he stressed.
Oleksandr Turchynov explained that statements about the “disadvantageousness” of gas contracts signed in Moscow is an attempt to compromise gas agreements on the part of those who during many years “made a profit out of mediators, unnecessary for the state and energy market”. In particular, according to him, the matter concerns the most corrupted structure in the gas market of Ukraine – RosUkrEnergo company which having no gas, no own gas transportation networks, no powerful financial resources within a short space of time turned to a powerful financial empire at the cost of money-pumping between Naftogaz and Gazprom.
The First Vice Prime Minister noted that such statements of some politicians mean attempts to return Ukraine to the state of gas war. “There is wish again to revise the reached agreements and return Ukraine to the state of social and economic, social and political provocation and insecurity of the state.
As he says, the Government will exert every effort to bar from this situation.
Oleksandr Turchynov also reminded that Ukraine had faced a grave situation in the period of the gas supplies shutdown which threatened not only the economic stability but economic security of our state. But, according to him, “The Cabinet of Ministers did its best, to provide the citizens’ houses, so that the most of enterprises could operate”.
