PM Tymoshenko Does Not Exclude Special Session of VR on NBU
OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2009. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko doesn’t exclude a special session of the Verkhovna Rada which is to consider issues on activity of the National Bank of Ukraine can take place on Monday-Tuesday.
During a press conference she announced the faction of her political force, the BYuT, has already collected 155 signatures necessary the session to be held: “I will take consultations with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and ask to call a special session on Monday-Tuesday”.
Yulia Tymoshenko informed the agenda of the session would include an issue on discharging the NBU head Volodymyr Stelmakh and his First Deputy Anatolii Shapovalov.
The Premier maintained if the NBU leaders are not immediately dismissed speculations with hryvnya course will proceed. “With a new NBU head, who is able to work fairly and non-corrupt, hryvnya rate will be on the level of 6 – 6.5 per dollar,” she emphasized. Yulia Tymoshenko reminded that founded in the Verkhovna Rada Temporary Investigation Commission have established that activity of the National Bank, including distribution of emission resources, led to headlong fall of the hryvnya course.
“The Investigation Commission has revealed that just speculative deals on the currency market have led to headlong and groundless fall of hryvnya course. Such transactions with currency rate were bound amidst several private banks, which were allotted huge money,” Premier stressed and added these are in particular, the Nadra bank and Rodovid bank. At this, Yulia Tymoshenko is convinced the NBU leaders could have provided the Nadra bank with illegal sum of UAH 10 bn only on accord with the President of Ukraine. Yulia Tymoshenko believes during the special session another issue considered will be the question of calling to account all top officials, involved into machinations on the home currency market.
