OREANDA-NEWS. On January 21, 2009 Enterprises of Metinvest Group have pre-registered on time and in line with the EU's REACH regulations, reported the press-centre of SCM.

According to the new laws of the EU called REACH, manufacturers and importers outside the EU may not carry out pre-registration and registration by themselves. This can be done by the Only Representative present in the EU and appointed by the manufacturer or importer not residing in the EU. Metinvest International Italia S.r.l. was appointed the Only Representative of our producers.

Registration of chemical substances after pre-registration procedure includes three stages depending on the annual tonnage of export in the EU: 30 November 2010 - for chemical substances exported in the EU in over 1000 tonnes per annum; 31 May 2013 - chemical substances produced or imported in the EU of up to 100 tonnes or more per one manufacturer or importer per annum, at least once after 1 June 2007; 31 May 2018 - chemical substances produced or imported in the EU of up to 1 tonne or more per one manufacturer or importer per annum at least once after 1 June 2007.

Since the enterprises of the Group have been operating in the European market for long and are recognized as one of the best and reliable suppliers, whose products are widely used in various EU industries, it was required to meet all procedures stipulated for this market segment. European market is a priority in development of the company.   

"The pre-registration procedure, undergone by the businesses of the Company according to REACH on time and successfully, guarantees a continuous access to the European market. Today we can focus on the actions for registration of the chemical products", said Sergey Ryabov, Director for Industrial Health and Safety, and Environment at Metinvest Holding.

Registration of products in line with REACH and further export of the Group's products to the EU are among the plans for future. Registration requires accurate and concerted actions of all parties including the EU states. Their governmental agencies will monitor compliance with REACH. REACH registration of metal products runs from 2009 till 2018.

The company and enterprises will help the Only Representative to develop a registration dossier by providing necessary information about their products.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Autorization, CHemicals) is regulation 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and the Council of EU Ministers. It addresses regulation of production, distribution in the EU market and further use of chemicals. The new law entered into force on 1 June 2007. REACH sets rules for all stages of manufacture, sale and further use of products in terms of their chemical composition. It targets, primarily, to minimize harm to human health and the environment, which can be caused by the use of various chemicals and their compounds.
