OREANDA-NEWS. On 19 January 2009 was announced, that Ukrainian president vetoed the law which provided a temporary increase in import duties for noncritical imports of 13% with a possible prolongation by government without parliament's approval. This law contradicts the WTO norms and the provisions of the IMF loan agreement. Also the provision of the law about its prolongation by the government contradicts the Ukrainian Constitution because this is an exclusive right of parliament. We would remind that Ukrainian car builders were the supposed benefit recipients of this law although in principal, in its self it failed to directly address the main problems of the industry- the decrease of the purchasing capacity of the Ukrainian population.
