OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. 7 thousand 155 items of road machinery destined to clean motor roads from snow and cover the paving with skid resistance materials were launched by Ukrautodor in winter on highways.

The machines of permanent readiness include equipment of four mobile detachments deployed on bases of Kolomyiska road servicing section (RSS) in Ivano-Frankivsk region, Special autobase of regional road department in Kyiv region, Tsurupinsk RSS in Kherson region and Pyatykhatska RSS in Kharkiv region. 74 items of machinery are included into the detachments.

To ensure safe traffic in icy conditions 848 thousand tons of sand and 134.3 thousand tons of technical salt or its constituents have been prepared. The sets of temporary road signs have been mounted such as Slippery Road, while on crossed sections – caution signs No admittance with tables for buses and trucks without protective clothing. Additional direction landmarks and signal poles have been placed.

A peculiar attention was paid to crossed sections of roads in the Carpathians and Crimea which in the time of winter exploitation are the most complicated for traffic.

The road services fulfill regular cleaning works of snowy parts of the roads and covering with skid resistance materials. Daily in the mountainous areas about 36 snow-ploughs operate: 13 in Zakarpattya region, 14 – in Lviv, 4 – in Ivano-Frankivsk, 2 – in Chernivtsi and 3 – in Crimea.
