OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. The Government insists on considering by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine an issue concerning NBU actions on the currency market of Ukraine.

At a press conference the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko announced, “we will initiate further listening of behaviour of the National Bank which has entailed ungrounded course of hryvnya, has made it absolutely ruining for the country, inadmissible for the population of Ukraine, unacceptable for the banking system”.

Prime Minister reminded that before the New Year 400 people’s deputies voted for replacing of head of National Bank, whose new team would be able to establish order on the currency market, with refinancing of banks and interest rates for credits which surpassed 30% already.

Yulia Tymoshenko aired her regret that the President hadn’t reacted to this decision of the Verkhovna Rada: “After the holidays I have addressed to the President a lot of times. I wish this decision to appear in a public plane again and to be tackled by the Verkhovna Rada”.

The Prime Minister emphasized the Government would also initiate making changes into the Law “On the National Bank of Ukraine” with a possibility to discharge the NBU leaders and hand these responsibilities over to the NBU Council.

According to the PM the issue is hampered to be viewed in the Parliament by the Regions Party, who lobby interests of their banking structures – Rodovid Bank and Nadra Bank as they use NBU resources on a corruptive basis.
