OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2009. In 2008 the port of Liepaja handled 4.190 million tonnes of cargo (+3.7%, year-on-year), the Baltic Course reports with reference to Liepaja SEZ. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 11.2%, while transshipment of loose dry and general cargo stayed at the level of the previous year.

Stevedoring company АО Liepajas osta LM handled 1.275 million tonnes of cargo (+4.1%), Trans Wide service - 860,390 tonnes (+25.1), ООО DG  Terminals – 412,000 tonnes (+12.9%).

The highest growth was demonstrated by Liepaja Petrolium — 372.6%.

The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and loose dry cargo from CIS countries, mainly Byelorussia.
