OREANDA-NEWS. On January 13, 2009 As it was informed in the government, by late 2008 water and sewage systems in 333 localities of Moldova were laid and upgraded, as well as 93 thousand wells in rural areas were restored and modernized.

During the period, technical justification was completed. In the result, 7 towns (Soroca, Balti, Orhei, Cahul, Causeni, Floresti, Ungheni – from the World Bank loan amounting to US14 million) and 50 villages for inclusion in the National Water and Sewerage Program were selected. During the same period 62 km of water pipelines, 29 km of sewerage networks, 75 artesian wells, 166 pumping stations have been repaired.

In addition, water main Micauti-Straseni length of 19 km, which will provide town of Straseni with potable water, was put into operation. In the result of the inventory of Moldovan wells and water basins, 4488 water wells; 2,665 wells of which equipped in correspondence with sanitary protection norms, 2071-in working condition and 2409- not being operated have been identified. 1330 of the unexploited wells are laid up, 550 - are on standby and 483 wells are subject to liquidation.
