OREANDA-NEWS. On January 12, 2009 First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine announced during a sitting of Coordination Council of leaders of deputies’ factions in the Parliament.

The First Vice Premier reminded that “the incumbent Government has obtained the National Company Naftogaz of Ukraine with the debt of over 8 billion dollars”. He stressed that for now there are no debts for gas in the Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Speaking on the situation in gas sphere Olexandr Turchynov underlined “the gas issue was transferred from an exceptionally economic plane into exceptionally political, at this, on the European and global level”. He also called a myth the statements that Ukraine was diverting gas destined for the European states.

The First Vice Premier emphasized that despite the situation with gas deliveries supplies for the Ukrainian population had neither reduced nor terminated. “Ukraine has never stepped out of the negotiation process in gas sphere,” Olexandr Turchynov explained.
