OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2009. In the outcomes for 2008 Odesa Sea Trade Port have handled 34.5 million tons of loads. This is a new record of the enterprise for the whole history.

Previous achievements back from the period of independence of Ukraine (2002 – 33.6 million tons) have improved almost by 1 million ton, while the record of the Soviet epoch (1989 – 31.52 million tons) – almost by 3 million tons.

From now on the criterion of success of the enterprise will be the record 2008. And not only in the showings of cargo hadling. For instance, investments into development of production capacities of the port have reached UAH 521 million last year (in 2007 – 398 million). Out of this sum the enterprise invested UAH 274 million (in 2007 – 184 million), while stevedore companies – UAH 246 million (in 2007 – 214 million).

The record of recent year was achieved at the account of growing amounts of such cargoes as grain, petroleum and containers. In spring, resulted from the global financial crisis the volumes of transshipment of metals dropped, a problem with shipment of containers emerged. However, owing to the fact that administration of the port together with leaders of stevedore companies have found the way out by taking antirecessionary measures, the amounts of cargoes have been increased.
