Azerbaijan Displaces Focus on Hydroelectric Stations Development
OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2008. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev participated in the ceremony of putting into operation Sangachal module power station and made statements concerning new tasks on development of generating powers in the country’s energy system.
Ilham Aliyev said in upcoming years the country will be mainly focused on construction of hydroelectric stations.
“For that purpose we are preparing a special programme allowing to strengthen the country’s export potential,” Aliyev said.
Since mid-2008 Azerbaijan is a net energy exporter. In 2009 the country will put into operation three new power stations with total capacity of up to 1,500 MW – 500 MW Sumgait Steam and Das Power Station, 780 MW Cenub Shirvan Power Station and Guba Module Power Station.
