Nuclear Energy Class Opened at Moscow School
OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2008. A nuclear energy class was opened at vocational school #1547 (physical-mathematical school implementing joint projects with Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) in Moscow Dec 23 2008. The head of the Press Service Department of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Novikov, the head of the PR Department of Atomenergoprom OJSC Ivan Dybov and the director of vocational school #1547 Andrey Barinov attended the opening ceremony.
The class has been organized by Atomexpo, subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC, which financed the project.
The class was a present made to the school on the occasion of the Day of Knowledge.
The head of the Press Service Department of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Novikov pointed out that Rosatom hoped that the class would be popular not only among the pupils of vocational schools #1547 but also among schoolchildren of the south-western district of Moscow. “We want this project to involve as big audience as possible. It is right that the first such class was opened at the school training students for MEPhI. But virtual voyage into the world of nuclear energy may be interesting not only for children wanting to become nuclear power engineers. So, we hope that the class will be open to children from other Moscow schools,” Novikov said.
The head of the PR Department of Atomenergoprom OJSC Ivan Dybov said that the center would apply quite new information technologies: “In order to attract the attention of children the class will use the visual technologies that have already been tested under commercial projects. This class is an absolutely non-commercial project: its objective is to tell children about the nature of nuclear energy in an interesting and informative form.”
Director of Vocational School #1547 Andrey Barinov pointed out the importance of the project: “The promise given by the head of Rosatom on the Day of Knowledge has been fulfilled and now we have a unique class with unique technologies and content. Our school trains students for MEPhI and this class will certainly help us to enhance their interest in nuclear energy.”
The class is designed for schoolchildren of Moscow and Moscow region. The pupils will receive detailed information about the work of a nuclear power plant and other nuclear facilities. The “World of Nuclear Energy” video program designed for the class is based on 3D View. The class has a big screen for demonstration of video films: 3D image, stereo sound, interactive environment produce an effect of immediate participation in the programs. The class also has programs on astronomy, geography, natural science, national studies.
This class is the second information center set up by Rosatom so far. By the end of this year Atomexpo is planning to open one more information center in Voronezh, To remind, in Nov 2008 the first information center was opened in Tomsk. In 2009 such centers will be opened in five regions.
