Former Chief of Plesetsk Becomes Construction Minister
OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2008. Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of the Amurskaya region, appointed Konstantin Chmarov, former Chief of Staff of the Plesetsk space port, the Minister of Construction at the Vostochny space port.
According to the Governor, a lot of construction activities "are to be carried out in order to build the Vostochny space port with required social and engineering infrastructure, as well as a set of industrial building companies in Priamurie". The Governor emphasized that the future space port is a special "step forward for evolution of the regional economy".
The system project of the Russian Vostochny space port has been approved by the Board of the Federal Space Agency in July, 2008. The construction activity program covers several milestones. Design and research activities will last until 2011; then, construction of the launch pad will begin.
Starting from 2015, it is planned to launch spacecraft and cargo vehicles from the Vostochny. Next stage implies development of the infrastructure (2018-2020) for crew launches. Perspectively, heavy 100-t vehicles are to be flown from the Vostochny space port.
