OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2008. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has approved a decision to give effect to the manual of railway freight tariffs of Ukraine as a base document. This was disclosed by Director of the Railway Transport Department Mykhailo Makarenko.

Introduction of the new manual of railway freight will fix transparent tariffs and bring them to conformity with requirements of the current legislation and directives of the European Union concerning the railway transport, Mykhailo Makarenko noted.

Now the provisions of the manual of railway freight tariffs of Ukraine drafted in 1999 on the basis of the Price List10-01 of the former Soviet Union is applied in carrying out railway freight calculations.

“The manual will encourage pursuing the flexible tariff policy and balance the interest of owners of freight, railways and state,” the Director of the Railway Transport Department said.

The manual is scheduled to be brought to effect beginning January 1, 2009 though the final decision on the date of introduction is not taken yet.
