Russian Railroad Transportation Tariffs Expected to Be Raised by 5%
OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2008. Railroad transportation tariffs are expected to be raised by 5% effective January 1, 2009 and 5.7% effective July 1, 2008, Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina said at a meeting devoted to economic issues and chaired by the president. “The decision has been adopted for railroad transport to cut indexation compared to the earlier plans” – said Nabiullina. “We plan to raise the tariff twice: on January 1 and on July 1 by 5% and 5.7%, respectively”, the minister said. Earlier head of RRC Vladimir Yakunin announced the government’s decision to raise railroad transportation tariffs by 8% instead of earlier planned 14%. In addition, the state will offset lost revenue for the railroad monopoly worth RUB 50 bn. FTS has decided to raise passenger railroad transportation tariffs by an average 12% in 2009.
