Project of Klaipeda Seaport KIPIS Received Award
OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2008. Information society development committee organized a competition NAUJASIS KNYGNESYS 2008 and the award ceremony took place in „Novotel“ hotel (Vilnius) and the project KIPIS of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority (Cargo and goods information system) was awarded there, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda State Seaport.
Information society development committee under the Government of Lithuania organized the competition NAUJASIS KNYGNESYS 2008 for the 6th time in Lithuania. The main objectives of the competition were – to give awards to people and organizations that added to the development of information society and were dedicated to induce and evaluate information society development initiatives.
The projects are evaluated in 8 categories: e-Government & Institutions, e-health & Institutions, e-Learning & Education, e-Entertainment & Games, e-Culture & Heritage, e-Science & Technology, e-Business & Commerce, e-Inclusion & Participation (more information about this competition you may find at http://www.ivpk.lt/main_en.php).
Projects were distributed according to 8 categories and awarded („Naujasis knygnesys 2008“) and they will be submitted to a similar world competition of World Summit Award (more information at http://www.wsis-award.org/about/index.wbp).
World Summit Award – is a competition with the aim to select and induce the best projects of electronic content. A lot of the countries of the world are involved there and it aims to decrease Digital disjuncture and make prerequisites to reach the main goal – to complete the gap of digital content.
World Summit Awards pay special attention to cultural diversity and identity, saving and distribution of science and cultural heritage in Digital media, creation of different information content. 168 countries of the world participate in this global competition actively since 2003. Expert commission evaluate the projects (the candidates are approved by all 191 UN members).
Information society development committee (director – Aurimas Matulis) is an official organizer of a national WSA in Lithuania.
The Project of Port Authority KIPIS participated in e-Business & Commerce category and it was submitted by Klaipeda county administration regional development board e-region committee.
In the ceremony of awards on the 5th of December 2008 in „Novotel“ hotel (Vilnius) the project KIPIS was recognized as the best in this category and got a prise. Director for Marketing Arturas Drungilas represented Klaipeda State Seaport Authority in the ceremony. The Project will be submitted to WSA 2008 competition and its winners will be announced in June 2009 when the ceremony of awards will take place.
