OREANDA-NEWS  On 16 December was announced, that in the past weekend workers completed restoration of electricity supply of inhabited areas of the Bryansk Region that had suffered from heavy snowfall on 8-10 December.

As a result of the snowfall, fourteen 110 kV lines and twenty-three 35 kV lines that supplied with electricity the south-west areas of the region were damaged; it lead to disconnection of thirty-three 35-110 kV substations.

For this reason 4,679 transformer centres that provide rural settlements with electricity stopped receiving it. The condition was worsened by the fact that a great number of 6-10 kV feeders that connect these substations with villages were also damaged. Thus, restoration of 110-35 kV high-voltage lines could lead to automatic connection of the inhabited areas.

In total more than 25 thousand inhabitants of 2,063 inhabited areas of Zlynkovsk, Klimovsk, Klintsovsk, Unechsk, Novozybkovsk and Surazhsk districts, including three district centres, were left without electricity.

The reason for such a large-scale emergency was mass falling of trees that had not sustained the weight of the snow on them. A total of around 300 people took part in the recovery work. The majority of them were workers of electric networks zones that had suffered most from the snowfall.

The teams of electric workers from neighbouring electricity zones that were less affected by the snowfall came to help the workers of the suffered areas. The teams dispatched by local EMERCOM authorities took active part in removal of fallen tress from the wires: in some places they had to remove up to ten trunks from a span.
