OREANDA-NEWS. On December 05, 2008 Delegation of the State Customs Service of Ukraine took part in a meeting of states-participants of the 8-th session of Subcommittee of the World Customs Organization.

Within the framework of the session Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Head of the SCS Petro Onopenko held a series of bilateral meetings. In particular, during the meeting with Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Customs Directorate of the Republic of Slovakia readiness to render expert assistance in the spheres representing an interest for the State Customs Service of Ukraine was expressed, notably in approaching the national normative base in the customs domain to the European standards.

The members of Ukrainian delegation also communicated with members of the World Bank who, particularly informed that UAD 40 mn are available and can be directed to the technical assistance in realization of pilot (realized by one state from the WCO region) projects in corruption fight in the customs sphere.

Peculiar attention in the framework of the 8-th session of the Subcommittee was paid to the necessity to develop partnership relations between the customs and private sector in the sphere of corruption fight. In particular, the customs administrations of WCO member-states recommended to sign respective Memorandums on mutual understanding with the private sector by the model of revised Arusha declaration.

The session’s participants stress significant role of codes of ethics of customs officers and admitted as appropriate experience of many states concerning attraction to their elaboration customs officers of lower level who directly deal with preparing of documents.
