OREANDA-NEWS. December 09, 2008. One of the main directions in the transport domain is to make the transport infrastructure available for the disabled people. First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Vasyl Shevchenko announced during a roundtable into the issues of availability of architecture and transport infrastructure for the citizens with disabilities.

Vasyl Shevchenko stressed that the Ministry of Transport and Communications is actively working over free access for the disabled people to the transport infrastructure. Notably, on September 4 of the current year an ordinance was issues “On approving Amendments to the Rules of passenger, luggage, freight baggage and post conveyance by railway of Ukraine” which was added with a separate section “Peculiarities of transportation of invalids”.

“We have given an instruction to the departments’ heads to elaborate branch programs of improvement of servicing of the disabled citizens,” the First Deputy Minister Vasyl Shevchenko noted.

It is also envisaged to make changes into the rules of providing services for passenger vehicles, avia-carriers and underground.
