OREANDA-NEWS. On 3 March 2008, Russian Railways announced a tender to choose a strategic partner for the manufacture and supply of a range of double-deck passenger carriages, with phased localization of production in the Russian Federation, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

On the basis of bids received the following companies were short-listed:

Alstom Transport A.O

Bombardier Transportation GmbH

AO Transtek

Following a final analysis of the bids, Alstom Transport has been declared the winner.

The project will be implemented through a joint venture between Alstom Transport and Transmashholding – TMH Alstom DV - which will manufacture the double-deck carriages in Russia.

In the near future Russian Railways and TMH Alstom DV will commence negotiations on the terms of the contract to supply the double-deck passenger carriages and set up manufacturing operations within the Russian Federation.
