Amount of Russian Humanitarian Aid to Moldova Made US 45 mln
OREANDA-NEWS. December 05, 2008. The completion of deliveries of humanitarian aid was announced by the Ambassador of Russia in Moldova Valerii Kuzmin.
In 2007-2008, Russia has become one of the main humanitarian donors of Moldova. Valerii Kuzmin reminded that Russian humanitarian aid has been delivered to Moldova since November 2007.
By the request of the Government of Russia, "Gazprom" allocated about US 4 million necessary for acquisition of six tons of diesel fuel for the autumn field works. Later, Moldova has received 209 wagons with 10 tons of food wheat and 4 tons of fodder grain.
In March 2008, Gagauzia, as the region mostly affected by the drought, has received 24 tons of rice, 5 tons of canned meat and 30 tons of buckwheat. In November, 2008, Gagauzia has also received 5 tons of food wheat and 60 tons of vegetable oil. Besides, Transnistria has received about US 27.7 million to support socially vulnerable categories of population, including US 8.5 million for crediting agrarian sector of the region.
Total amount of Russian humanitarian aid provided to Moldova in connection with the drought made about USD 40 million. In August 2008, Russia provided emergency humanitarian assistance to Moldova in the amount of 50 tons of cargo worth US 1.5 million.
The same assistance was dispatched in Transnistria. Considerable assistance to Transnistria was provided by the Government of Moscow. In addition of the special equipment, Muscovites accommodated more than 200 children of the region in the camps near Moscow. The total amount of Russian humanitarian aid for liquidation of consequences of the flood amounted to about US 4.5 million.
