OMZ’s SKODA JS Dispatched Support Ring for Finnish Nuclear Reactor
OREANDA-NEWS On 05 December OMZ OJSC (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY) announced that Skoda JS a.s., a part of OMZ Group, dispatched a just-finished support ring for an EPR reactor being constructed by French-German company Areva NP in Olkiluoto on the West coast of Finland.
The delivery of the 60-ton ring, eight meters in diameter, took place through a Northern German sea port recently made more accessible with the joining of German and Czech highways.
The EPR reactor presents a new type of a pressurized water reactor of so-called Generation III+. Once it is finished it shall become a reactor with the biggest output in the world (1.600 MWe), that is reflected in its dimensions.Three years ago SKODA JS succeeded in a challenging tebder and apart from the mentioned support ring it was awarded another contract for the manufacture of reactor internal parts. Several pieces of heavy components shall be finished and ready for the diospatch to Finland within next months.
Apart from Finland Areva NP is also commencing the construction of EPR reactors in France and China. In a short time interval the same power plants are also planned right in several places in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. On the basis of good references and current supply to Finland SKODA JS has a great chance to be awarded similar contracts for analogous manufacture of components for other EPR reactors round the world.
