The experts pointed out the importance of the works offering solutions to the problems of safety of oil and gas pipelines. This problem will be topical for humanity for a long time.

“The safety of oil and gas transportation is problem of Russia’s economic and ecological safety and one of our most urgent tasks. The breakdown rate of pipelines is growing 1.7 times each year and today almost 50%-70% of our pipelines are worn out,” one of the experts said.

One of the winners of the last year’s contest said: “The mission of scientists is to make people’s lives more comfortable: so that they no longer see and inhale smoke, so that they no longer have to recharge their phones and notebooks every day, so that they can use electric generator at home like they use washing machine or TV set.”

To remind, for the first time in the history of international awards and Global Energy prize, young researchers from the Youth World Energy Expert Council (YWEEC) have taken part in the selection of winners of "Energy of the Youth" contest equally with their older colleagues – big international renowned scientists.

The communication with young scientists was organized with the help of special confidential on-line forum. In order to take part in the process young researchers had to sign in www.yweec.ru and to obtain login and password for access. The experts made a list of six pretenders and arguments in support of each of them. The lists and the arguments were submitted to the expert committee of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee for final decision.

The awarding of the winners of the 5th All-Russian Contest of Youth Research Projects in the Field of Power Engineering “Energy of the Youth” and the media contest “Energy of the Pen” will take place in the House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Dec 17 2008 at 05:00 PM.
