The employment rate of women and men is approximately the same. Of the total employed population, 57.6% are citizens of rural areas, and 42.6% - urban residents.

According to NBS, the employment rate of people aged 15 and over made 44.5% or 1.6 points less than the previous quarter, and the same as of the third quarter 2007. The level of employment of citizens of the working age (16 - 56/61 years) made 51.8%, and in the age group of 15-29 years- 28%, respectively.

Of the total employed population, 34.1% (447 thousand) were engaged in agriculture, 12.6% - in industry, 6.9% - in construction and 46.4% - in the sector of services. 71.6% of the employed work in the private companies, 24,7% in the state structures and 3,7% in the companies with mixed public-private and foreign capital - 3.7%.
