OREANDA-NEWS. On November 27, 2008 The car plant in Asaka, Andijan region produced its one millionth car, reported the Official website www.gov.uz.

Last year, Uzavtosanoat (Uzbek Car Industry) company signed an agreement with General Motors on setting up the GM Uzbekistan joint venture. The agreement opened the opportunities to produce new models of GM.

Currently the Asaka car plant produces seven models of cars, including Chevrolet models Epica, Captiva and Tacuma.

Last year, the enterprise produced 170,000 cars, and in the nine months of this year almost 140,000 cars. The plant, launched in 1996, today employs more than 5,000 people.

In the coming years, GM Uzbekistan is planning to launch production of other Chevrolet models, increasing the productino to the plant’s capacity of 250,000 cars per year.
