Volgodonks NPP Hosts “Paton Recitals”
OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2008. Representatives of Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant, Atommashexport OJSC, the Volgodonsk Branch of the Russian Nuclear Society, professors and students of the Volgodonsk Branch of the South-Russian State Technical University, Volgodonsk Polytechnic College, honored welders of Russia took part in the event.
The recitals were dedicated to the 90th birthday of outstanding welder Boris Paton.
The coordinator of the event was the organizer of “Kurchatov Recitals” in Volgodonsk, member of the Russian Nuclear Society Nikolay Bakumtsev. “Welding and nuclear power engineering are indivisible. Half of the technological processes in the nuclear industry are based on welding. Welding is guarantee of safety of nuclear reactors,” bakumtsev said.
The audience was familiarized with the biography of Paton. The students of the Polytechnic College presented the history of welding and the biographies of the best welders of Russia.
The participants were unanimous that it was necessary to revive the tradition of mentorship and inter-generational continuity.
Volgodonsk is proud of its welders — not only retired workers but also the youths who have come to replace them. Just a few facts: students of Volgodonsk Polytechnic College have won second places at all-Russian welding Olympiads in Moscow and St.Petersburg; welders of Volgodonsk are in high demand both in Russia and abroad, the welding school of Vladimir Tudvasev is known far beyond Volgodonsk: hundreds of welders have been trained by his unique methodology.
Since by 2016 the region is planning to build three new nuclear reactors, it needs highly qualified welders and this demand will grow each year. NPP is the only thing that can help the region to develop.
