OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2008. The export of bulk wines to Ukraine totaled 20.8 tons in January-September 2008, by 30% less over the same period of 2007, the Moldova-Vin Agroindustrial Agency informed referring to the Ukrainian media.

According to the cited source, Director of Ukrainian company Vinfort, Dmitrii Saifudinov, explains the phenomenon through the Moldovan wine price raise by 20-30% and appreciation of MDL against other foreign currencies.

At the same time, Ukrainian winemakers state that the reduction of imports did not influence their businesses because Moldovan wines account for 10% of the market only.

The representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Winemakers suppose that the wine Ukrainian wine market might be conquered by cheap wines from other countries due to low import customs duties. To this effect, Saifudinov said that cheap and quality wines from other countries may alert only those who produce poor wines.

According to official statistics, Ukraine ranks the second, after Russia, in terms of Moldovan wine supplies. In January-June 2008, the exports to Ukraine totaled 35.1 mln USD.
