Digital Navigational Maps of the Russian Federation
OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2008. Roscartographia and GLONASS-GNSS-Forum Association held a meeting devoted to discussion of the GLONASS commercial applications and development of the digital navigational maps (DNM).
DNM development is one of the main provisions for wide-range GLONASS utilization in the Russian Federation. The “Global Navigation System” Federal Special Program implies development of the large-scale navigational maps to cover the territory of Russia, in particular:
- opened DNMs on the basis of updated state topographic maps of the Russian Federation (scale 1:100000) have been developed almost for all the territory of the Russian Federation;
- opened DNMs on the basis of updated state topographic maps of the Russian Federation (scale 1:50000): about 51000 nomenclature pages are to be available in 2011;
- opened DNMs on the basis of updated state topographic maps of the Russian Federation (scale 1:25000): about 47000 nomenclature pages are to be available in 2011;
- opened digital navigational plans on the basis of updated digital plans of the Russian cities with population over 50,000 (scale 1:10000 – 1: 25000): for 350 cities in 2011.
In addition, proposals on requirements to the map contents, DNM cost development approach and other topics were also discussed during the meeting.
The companies participated in the meeting decided to continue their dialogue, establish a DNM committee on the basis of GLONASS/GNSS-Forum and to hold a session on DNM and database development in Russia during the 3-d International Satellite Navigation Forum to take place on May 12-15, 2009.
