Kyiv Drivers Create Kyiv Traffic Maps
OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2008. Starting today, Yandex users in Kyiv can see the full picture of traffic situation in their city. Now, Yandex.Maps considers traffic data provided by Kyiv drivers.
This March, Yandex launched the “Kyiv Traffic” map providing data from the Druga Smuga information agency, and in June 2008, Yandex went on with its Traffic 2.0 program generating traffic data from drivers of the Ukrainian capital. Kiev motorists have been actively participating in the program. Now, hundreds of drivers take part in creating the city traffic map daily. As a result, Yandex.Maps is now demonstrating an aggregated Kiev traffic map featuring both the partner agency data and user-generated content.
“Data generated from drivers allow us to report the traffic situation much more precisely,” explains Vyacheslav Pankratov, Technology Director of Yandex.Ukraine, “With user help we can much more quickly learn where a traffic jam is over and even see jams in the places where monitoring cameras are not set at all. We are extremely grateful for Kiev drivers participating in the program. The more information we share with each other, the more convenient our driving in the city is.”
Yandex.Maps tracks user-generated traffic content in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kyiv and Ekaterinburg. Traffic jams as well as clear ‘green’ roads can be viewed at maps.yandex.ru and at any mobile device with Yandex.Maps mobile application. To read more about participating in the user-generated traffic monitoring program, please go to Traffic 2.0 (only in Russian).
