DTEK’s Companies Meets Requirements of OHSAS
OREANDA-NEWS. November 14, 2008. DTEK continues the introduction of an advanced safety management system (SMS) meeting the requirements of the OHSAS 18001:2007 international standard. Upon the results of its pre-certification audit, DTEK’s SMS has been recognized as meeting the standard’s requirements.
The opinion of the international consulting company ‘Bureau Veritas Ukraine’ that conducted the audit is based not only on the study of the available documentation (the Safety Policy, Guidelines on SMS, safety standards, technical and process documents, assessment maps of divisions’ risks), but also on the analysis made by the auditors with regard to the compliance of work sites and processes with the standard.
The programme on the development and introduction of SMS was launched in May 2007 at the main enterprises of DTEK: Pavlogradugol, Komsomolets Donbassa Mine, and Vostokenergo. The outcome is the occupational injuries at the above companies have dropped by 50%.
The next stage – a certification audit – is scheduled for the first quarter of 2009.
‘A present-day company cannot be imagined without an effective safety management system. Integrated in the company’s performance, it lays a foundation for required actions to ensure the improved efficiency and safety of operations’, says the Head of the Environmental, Health and Safety Department of DTEK, Dmitriy Tikhiy.
