OREANDA-NEWS. On November 12, 2008 a informal meeting has taken place in the presence of the ambassador of the Netherlands to the Russian Federation, Jan Paul Dirks, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Vadim Morozov presented the basic parameters of Russian Railways’ activity and noted the good dynamics in trade relations between Russia and the Netherlands.

Russian Railways’ First Vice President informed his colleagues from the Netherlands that one of the most high-priority areas of activity for the company is the increase in freight-traffic volume of large-capacity containers between the West and East.

The two sides agreed that the meeting will facilitate the development of railway container freight traffic between Russia and the Netherlands.

The volume of large-capacity container freight traffic by rail between Russia and the Netherlands for January to September 2008 was 37,017 TEU which is up 23% on for the same period in 2007.

Exports to the Netherlands were 20,285 TEU, which is down 1% year-on-year.

Transit was 14,317 TEU which is up 85% on January-September 2007.
