OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2008. The Government will appeal to the General Prosecutor and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to gain an opportunity to maintain control over public transport fares in Kyiv. Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine Yosyp Vinsky announced at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

“We have discussed it today with the First Vice Premier and have agreed to appeal to the General Prosecutor and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to secure the state could implement measures envisaged by the law to control the prices in Kyiv,” Yosyp Vinsky said.

Such actions of the Government are determined by the fact that today the working group on price control of a profile department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications has not received official data from Antimonopoly Committee in terms of raising of public transport fares, in particular, in Kyiv subway. “Unfortunately, there is no data from the Antimonopoly Committee for now, that’s why the Commission cannot draw conclusions and representatives of the working group are not allowed to the enterprise,” the Minister informed.

Kyiv transport fares soared 3-4fold early in November.
