OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2008. The turbine of the 2nd unit of Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant was stopped on Nov 12 at 02:02 AM for removal of defects in its mechanical equipment. No damage of equipment, change in the radiation background or violation of the safety rules have been registered. The repair is to be finished by the end of the day with the unit to be restarted within 24 hours. 

The 1st, 3rd and 4th units are operating according to the schedule.

The radiation background at Balakovo NPP and in the nearby area is within norm.

According to INES, this incident is of no safety significance and is classified as below-scale event.
