Throughput of Archangelsk Port Down 7.2% in Jan-Oct 08
OREANDA-NEWS. November 7, 2008. In January-October 2008, the port of Archangelsk decreased its throughput by 7.2%, year-on-year, to 4.171. million tonnes. In the reported period, the port’s stevedoring companies accepted 426,700 tonnes (+11.2%, year-on-year) including 265,1oo tonnes of import cargo (+10.3%), 161,700 tonnes of coastal trade cargo (+12.6%). In January-October the port imported 35,500 tonnes of containerized cargo (-24.1%), 7,100 tonnes of machines and equipment (up 4.4 times, year-on-year). Transshipment of incoming coastal trade containers fell by 34%, year-on-year, to 2,100 tonnes, scrap metal – fell by 45.9% to by1,700 tonnes, oil products – fell 10.5 times to 0,846 tonnes. Other general cargo - 156,99 tonnes (+22.3%).
In January-October 2008, the port of Archangelsk dispatched 3.744.3 million tonnes of cargo (+24.5%) including 1.598.3 million tonnes of export cargo (+21%, year-on-year) and 2.145.98 million tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-22.9%). Transshipment of export containerized cargo totaled 27,800 tonnes (-44.4%, year-on-year), timber - 435,300 tonnes (-10.2%), cellulose - 102,700 tonnes (+31.6%, year-on-year), cardboard and paper 17,300 tonnes (+30.5%).
Dispatched coastal trade oil and oil products amounted to 1.632.9 million tonnes 26.1%), other general cargo – 284,700 tonnes (-27.5%, year-on-year), containerized cargo - 28,500 tonnes (-61.5%, year-on-year).
The port of Archangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. Seaport of Archangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175-200 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Archangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Archangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
