OREANDA-NEWS  On 06 November “Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company “KEGOC” informed about successfully completion of the first phase of project “Construction of second line 500kV of North-South transit of Kazakhstan”.

On October 22, 2008 at 500kV “Shu” SS (Zhambyl oblast) a ceremonial switching on of “YuKGRES – Shu” section. Within the frame of the breakthrough project’s first phase there were constructed 500kV “Shu” Substation (SS) and 500kV “YuKGRES – Shu” OHTL with length of 248 kilometers.

Joining of 500kV “Shu” SS with “YuKGRES” SS will allow to deliver additionally 100 MW to a South zone with power shortage. In 2009, after full completion of the project, a volume of electric energy transmission in south direction will increase from 630 MW to 1350 MW.

Implementation of the project of “KEGOC” National Company has a strategic importance in respect of power supply for a south region of the country, provision of stable parallel work of the energy systems of Kazakhstan, Russia and Central Asia.

Project “Construction of 500kV second transmission line of North-South transit of Kazakhstan” is included in a state program “30 corporate leaders of Kazakhstan”.

The main components are – a construction of three sections of 500kV power transmission line with a total length of 1096 km, including an extension and a reconstruction of the existing substations (SS).

1st phase: a construction of 500kV “Shu” SS, 500kV “YuKGRES – Shu” OHTL with length of 248 km;

2nd phase: a construction of 500kV “Ekibastuz – Agadyr” OHTL, with length of 462 km;

3rd phase: a construction of 500kB “Agadyr – YuKGRES” OHTL, with length of 386 km.

During construction of this line, the newest structures and the modern technological equipment are used. For example, for the first time in the power industry of Kazakhstan the controlled shunt reactors (CSR) increasing a transit stability are installed at 500kV “YuKGRES” and “Agadyr” SSs.

Total value of the project is – KZT 43.6 mlrd. For financing the project “KEGOC” JSC has concluded the loan agreements with the international and the local finance institutions (IBRD, EBRD and KDB).

“KEGOC” JSC is a system operator of the unified power system of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which main objective is to provide a stable development of UPS Kazakhstan and reliable control of the National Power Grid.

The members of RK Government, “National Welfare Fund “Samruk-Kazyna”” JSC, the Akimats of Almaty, Almaty oblast and Zhambyl oblast, the President of “KEGOC” JSC Almassadam Satkaliyev, the representatives of KDB, IBRD and EBRD, the contractor companies – KEC International Ltd (India), Promstroi-Energo” LLP have participated in a solemn opening ceremony of the substation and switching on of a new line’s section.
