Chief Engineers of Russian NPPs Met at Kola NPP
OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2008. The chief engineers of the Russian nuclear power plants met at Kola Nuclear Power Plant Oct 20–23 2008.
The chief engineers of 10 Russian NPPs, Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, representatives of the Central Office of Energoatom Concern OJSC, research, development and maintenance organizations discussed the results of the work of the Russian NPPs in Jan-Sept 2008 and the tasks for the autumn-winter 2008–2009.
The last time Kola hosted such a meeting was 2003. Then the chief engineers discussed the results of the project to extend the service life of the plant’s 1st unit. Since then Kola NPP has finished the work to extend the service life of the 2nd unit and is extending the lives of the 3rd and 4th units. The plant has also launched a liquid radioactive waste treatment system and conducted a number of projects to enhance its safety and efficiency.
Acting Deputy Director General-Technical Director of Energoatom Concern Yuri Kopyov pointed out that Kola NPP had shown significant progress in the field of safety and was one of the safest and most efficient nuclear power plants in Russia.
After the meeting the chief engineers visited Atomflot FSUE in Murmansk and went onboard of a nuclear icebreaker.
