Kazakhtelecom Informs on Breakthrough Projects Going
OREANDA-NEWS. On October 21, 2008 Kazakhtelecom (Astana), shares of which are traded in the official list of Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) of the first category, provided KASE with the press release, reported the press-centre of KASE:
On October 20, 2008 the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev received chairman of the board of Kazakhtelecom Askar Zhumagaliev in Ak Orda residence. Zhumagaliev informed the head of the state on the breakthrough projects of the company.
In particular, Zhumagaliev told the President about innovation projects on introduction of NGN network and development of rural areas using CDMA technology within the state program "30 Kazakhstan corporate leaders".
"Telecommunications network transfer to 1 m. capacity NGN technology"
NGN - next generation network represents a multiservice telecommunications system, allowing subscribers for receiving convergent telecommunications services: voice, Internet and video.
Kazakhtelecom became the first CIS operator transferring at the beginning of 2007 intercity networks in throughout the whole country to NGN technology. In 2007 local NGN networks were launched in Astana, Almaty, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Taraz, and Taldykorgan.
In the elapsed period of 2008 NGN networks were launched in Petropavlovsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semipalatinsk and Shymkent. It is planned to start construction of NGN networks in Atyrau, Kokshetau and Aktobe before the end of this year. The total of subscribers connected to NGN will make up 760,000 by the end of this year.
Kazakhtelecom plans to invest KZT27 bn. into the project before 2010.
"Rural telecommunications network modernization and development using CDMA"
Digital standard of wireless connection CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) allows for providing rural inhabitants with telephone connection by means of radio access technologies. Base station CDMA-450 coverage in rural area makes up 25-35 km. One base station will service 1000 subscribers.
This breakthrough project was launched at the beginning of 2008 by subsidiary of Kazakhtelecom - Vostoktelecom. Since, 36 base stations have been installed in settlements of Akmola and Kostanay regions and South Kazakhstan. 164 more base stations are to be installed before the end of 2008 making a total of 200 base stations, which will allow for connecting over 61,000 terminals (telephones).
2009 will see an end of the first project stage and installation of 117 base stations and 165,000 terminals. The total investment for the first stage (2007-2009) will make up KZT12 bn.
The total investment for the second stage (2010-2013) only for CDMA-450 equipment will make KZT13.7 bn. Up to 900 base stations are scheduled for installation before 2013, which will enable to meet telecommunications demand of all rural inhabitants.
