UC RUSAL Launched Production of Super Thin Foil at ARMENAL Foil Mill
OREANDA-NEWS On 23 October UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, announced the launch of production of super thin 9 microns aluminium foil at the ARMENAL foil mill (Armenia). The company invested USD 6 million in super thin foil production technology in 2007-2008 to meet the high demand from global markets.
The share of super thin foil in the total volume of production at ARMENAL will rise to 70% once the new equipment reaches its design capacity. The super thin foil is aimed at clients in the USA, Europe, and Middle East.
The increase of super thin foil production capacity is one of the strategic goals of the company and was made possible by the complex modernisation programme undertaken at ARMENAL. The company has already invested USD 70 million in this programme.
Super thin foil is used for household appliances and, in combination with other materials, is widely used in the food industry.
The quality of the ARMENAL foil mill is certified by Rosstandart certification issued by the German company ISEGA in compliance with the packaging requirements for foodstuffs and medicines.
The mill is currently testing the production of less than 9 micron super thin foil.
About the ARMENAL foil mill
The foil rolling mill was founded in May 2000 as part of the Kanaker aluminium smelter. It is one of the biggest production facilities in Armenia and is the only producer of aluminium foil in the Caucasus and Central Asian regions. In 2000 the mill was integrated into RUSAL. Together with two other foil mills, SAYANAL and Urals Foil, ARMENAL forms the company’s Packaging Division. The mill employs over 700 people.
