OREANDA-NEWS. October 22, 2008. In the course of the first nine months of 2008, a total of 5,994.5 million kWh of electricity was exported from Ukraine, which is 1.416,0 million kWh or 19.1% less then during the like 2007 period, the Fuel and Energy Ministry reported.

Particularly, 2,208 million kWh of electricity (36.8%) was exported to Moldova, 1,942.7 million kWh (32.4%) to Hungary, 1,637 million kWh (19.4%) to Slovakia, 612 million kWh (10.2%) to Poland, and 68.1 million kWh (1.2%) to Romania.

The reduction of export volumes owes to the stop of exports to Belarus from July 1, 2007, and to Russia from October 1, 2007.

To stabilize the situation with piling up the required reserves of coal at thermoelectric power plant storages in September this year, electricity import from the Russian Federation was organized. The volume of the electricity imported reached 227.4 million kWh.
