Domodedovo Completes Implementation of Its Own NMS
OREANDA-NEWS On 16 October was announced, that Moscow International Airport Domodedovo is proceeding with the implementation of it’s own Noise monitoring System (NMS). At this stage 6 static measurement stations are mounted in the apartment block near the airport. 4 more stations are to be mounted this year, completion of mounting work and system tuning is planned for 2009. There will also be a mobile system (equipped on a vehicle) operating for on-the-spot noise level measurements in certain areas.
Environmental protection measures are a very important part of the development program of Domodedovo airport. Understanding the negative effect of aircraft noise on residents of the nearby regions the management of Domodedovo airport made a decision to implement NMS. The project was launched in 2005 and the first experimental stations were mounted in 2007.
The system will be operating automatically measuring and recording noise events (time, aircraft type, flight number, flight level). Operation of this system has a series of aims, one of which is increasing the awareness of airlines flying to Domodedovo of their responsibility for precise execution of approved take-off and approach patterns. Cumulative statistics on noise events will enable optimization of aircraft flight paths and operations in order to reduce aircraft noise effects on nearby territories and also plan the future development of the airport taking into account environmental protection measures.
The location of Domodedovo airport, in comparison to other airports of the Moscow Air Hub is most advantageous, as the main area exposed to negative noise effects is undeveloped. Domodedovo airport is situated 22 km from Moscow. At such a distance the effects of negative ecological factors, including aircraft noise can be almost fully excluded.
