Zhukovsky Central Institute Proposes Low-Noise Fans for ISS
OREANDA-NEWS. October 16, 2008. Experts from the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute Federal Entity (TsAGI) proposed low-noise fans for the ISS ECLS system (International Space Station Environment Control and Life Support System).
The fans developed by the TsAGI specialists provide the opportunity to decrease noise level from 5.5 to 8dB, and to keep required aerodynamics parameters at the same time. That value is really high, since all over the world making noise level 1.5-2 dB lower is considered significant.
Aerodynamics design has been finished; optimization of the acoustic parameters have been completed. Low-noise fans create high air pressure with low flow rate. The structure is ready, fan samples have been tested.
Application of new low-noise TsAGI fans can improve the environmental conditions for the ISS crew.
