Throughput of Russian Ports Up 1.6% in Jan-Sep 08
OREANDA-NEWS. In January-September, 2008, Russian ports handled 340.9 million tonnes of cargo (+1.6%, year-on-year), Association of Sea Commercial Ports informs.
In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo grew by 6.5%, year-on-year, to 145.7 mln t including 24.5 million tonnes of cargo carried in large-tonnage containers (+11%, year-on-year).
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 1.7%, year-on-year, to 195.2 million tonnes.
Export cargo accounts for 75% of total throughput (257 million tonnes), import – 10% (32.9 million tonnes), transit – 8% (28.7 million tonnes), coastal trade cargo – 7% (22.3 million tonnes).
Total throughput increase should be attributed to performance of terminal operators in the North-West Basin and the Far East Basin. Their throughput climbed by 3.1%, year-on-year to 161.4 million tonnes and by 3.3% to 61.26 million tonnes respectively, while the ports of the Southern Basin decreased throughput by 1.1%, year-on-year, to 118.24 million tonnes.
