Industrial Output in Ukraine Dropped Significantly
OREANDA-NEWS On 14 October was announced, that in Ukraine, the industrial output in September 2008 dropped as against September 2007 by 4.5% – it is a second-time decline of this indicator this year after its 0.5% deceleration in August, while in all previous months the industrial output grew by 5.1% – 11.5%. The State Statistics Committee presented this information.
According to the Committee data, in nine months the industrial output growth slowed down to 5.1% as against 6.3% in eight months. The State Statistics Committee specifies that as against the previous month this September the industrial output fell by 4.1%.
The decrease in the industrial output in September is caused, primarily, by decline in steelmaking industry – by 17% and coke as well as oil products output – by 22.3%. Besides, the decline was observed in food industry – by 5.5%, light industry – by 2.1%, chemical and petrochemical industries – by 2.1%. The situation is slightly better in the machine engineering area, which grew by 14.6%.
In Ukraine, the industrial output in 2007 grew 10.2% as against 2006. The Ministry of Economy predicts that in 2008 the industrial output in Ukraine will slow down to 7.8%, however, allowing for the last months’ statistics this outlook may be considered as too overoptimistic.
