PM of Moldova Met Head of World Meteorological Organization
OREANDA-NEWS. On October 08-09, 2008 The visit to Chisinau by the WMO chairman-in-office was occasioned by the holding of the 20th session of the Interstate Hydrometeorology Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and a regional conference of specialists in hydrometeorology in Chisinau, reported the Official website http://gov.md.
Aleksandr Bedritski appreciated the good organisation of the event, and was impressed by the high level of development of the hydrometeorological services in Moldova. The official said that, besides the ensuring of the cooperation between the hydro-meteorological services, the World Meteorological Organisaton elaborates new methodologies on the prevention of natural calamities and mitigating their impact.
The premier welcomed the organisation of the meeting of specialists in the hydrometeorology field in Chisinau, and voiced hope that the relations established within these meetings will lead to facilitating the exchange of information and experience in the area.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of the collaboration between the hydro-meteorological services from different countries, which the Moldovan authorities made sure of during the last summer floods. Zinaida Grecianii reiterated the Moldovan government's intention to further develop the bilateral and multilateral collaboration between the meteorological and hydrological services from the region.
Attending the event, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Violeta Ivanov said that Moldova fulfilled the commitments towards all the international environmental organisations which it is party to. The minister also said that the conference conducted on 8 October 2008 brings together specialists from over 60 countries, and comes to contribute to the cooperation between the state hydro-meteorological services of the region.
